Project Plan 1.8
The next project (in danger of spreading too thin here but…) the next project is to make a lightbox. So this would be a papercut lightbox, I’ve seen some very good ones on Instagram, someone who goes by the name of dr.papperoni. These lightboxes are hand made and you can buy the paper cut kits from his website and the DIY videos and reels he puts out are a real inspiration. The ones he does are also very popular and cover a lot of well known themes like cult movies and games. I want to steer away from this though as I’m always wary of copyright and also there is no point in going into competition with someone probably much better and definitely more established than I
So my idea is to convert some of my linescapes, the simpler vector based local scenes into lightboxes, as these are often 5 or 6 layers they lend themselves really well to conversion to lightboxes. With a little work I should be able to easily create at least 2 or 3 that I can think of straightaway. Some others may take a bit more work but the first job is to make some card stock, to get a deep frame and an LED strip to have a crack at the first one and see how it comes out. I’m also thinking that my nighttime linescapes which don’t really work in traditional print due to the heaviness of the darker colours may work really well when converted to lightboxes
As this will be mostly utilising existing scenes it will not be a completely new project but a variation on an existing one. As such it should key in nicely, I can use the same social media, websites and hopefully sales outlets without needing to do everything from scratch. The fact I am getting more value out of existing scenes and I can key into an existing project I’m hoping I won’t be spreading myself too thin as I aimed to only have 3 or 4 projects ideally and not startup 5 or 6. Of course these projects don’t have to all run concurrently and some may fail or simply not work once I’ve done more trials and consumer testing
As I also aim to branch out and create other local scenes to give broader appeal, especially to link into some East Coast beauty spots and of course the city of York which has enduring appeal as a very attractive tourist location. Though its not only tourists the appreciate York many locals are proud of their city and often buy images or products related to the city. It also has an association with wizards and ghosts which agin adds to its appeal and makes for a broader customer base which cannot hurt. As I branch out and create these other scenes I can bear in mind the lightbox application and see if I can adjust or create variations that suit lightboxes. Hopefully I can create an image with both uses and therefore it would be a much more efficient process
