Spooky 1.0

Ok so this now brings me to a ‘secret project’, something that will be revealed when I am ready to and I’ve got all the relevant parts in place. I don’t want to reveal just yet as I don’t want anyone to steal the idea and beat me to market, I also want to retain some secrecy until I’ve got any copyrights and trademarks in place and also the domain registered. I’m hoping this one will take off so I’ve got to, for now, preserve the idea

This brings me to another important note. Copyright, Trademarks and IP (Intellectual Property), as you may be aware there are laws that can protect your IP, and just as I want to avoid infringing on anyone else I also want to protect my own IP. The best way in the first instance is secrecy, if someone doesn’t know about it – they cannot steal it. But also protecting your rights can be costly, just because you have a copyright it doesn’t mean you are automatically covered and that’s it – the infringer will just back down, no if a copyright is infringed you may need to stand up in a court of law and prove it. Sometimes the threat of a lawsuit may cause the copycat to back down, but those businesses with big pockets and big lawyers may decide its worth their time and money to take you on, and that can be costly

You also have to think about countries where copyright law doesn’t exist, or isn’t properly enforced, such as China. If a rival sets up in China and floods the UK / EU markets with copycat products the chances of stopping them are slim to none, I mean would you know even where to start?

So until I have the product launched and the domain and any copyrights in place I’ll refer to this as simple ‘Project Spooky’, this is something I’ve thought about for a long time and I’ve noticed a lot of similar, but not the same, products start to gain popularity online and in some shops. The idea I had was born some time ago and I’ve also had the idea of several ‘accessories’ and other products that would suit and sell alongside the original idea that means it could become a fully rounded suite of products that compliment each other. This is great as multiple or repeat sales are a great way to reduce your costs, increase your profits and keep that business rolling in. Now this project isn’t just monetary, I enjoy creating things and it’s proving, with all the accessories and complimentary products to be a great little project I can get my teeth into
